Fris blijven zonder strijd: een andere kijk op deodorant

Staying Fresh Without the Struggle: A Different Look at Deodorant

Deodorant is often the first care product we use faithfully

During our adolescence, sweating, searching, and uncertain, we quickly became dependent on the trusty Axe or Nivea spray can. Since then, we've basically been stuck, because who wants to stink?

Odor isn't just something to get rid of. It says something about what's happening in your body—hormones, nutrition, stress, and health. The solution, therefore, lies not just in what you put under your arms, but in how you treat your body.

Sweating is healthy and necessary

It might sound strange, but sweating is an important part of your overall health. It helps cool your body, supports natural detoxification through the skin, and contributes to a healthy microbiome under your arms.

Sweat not only prevents you from overheating but also plays a role in the removal of waste products. If this process is suppressed for a long time, for example, by antiperspirants that block the sweat glands, it can affect other systems in your body, such as your liver, lymphatic system, and intestines.

And especially in a world where we are exposed to toxic substances on a daily basis, that natural drainage is more important than ever.

What actually causes sweat odor?

Sweat itself has little odor. The smell only develops when it comes into contact with bacteria on your skin, especially under your arms where it's warm and humid. These bacteria break down sweat particles and produce byproducts that you smell as body odor.

But odor is also influenced by your hormones, diet, liver function, stress levels, and even your menstrual cycle. In other words, your scent tells you something. And deodorant isn't the enemy, but it shouldn't be a band-aid either.

Why conventional deodorants often make the problem worse

Most conventional deodorants block sweat with aluminum salts or mask odor with synthetic fragrances. This works in the short term, but not in the long run. Your sweat isn't reduced, only suppressed. Bacteria aren't balanced, only temporarily disabled. Your skin barrier is depleted by alcohol, synthetic fragrances, and preservatives. And your odor often returns more strongly if you stop using it for a while.

That's why many people, when they switch to a natural deodorant, think it won't work. But it's rarely just that one stick. It's often your skin getting its first chance to regulate itself.

What does work: support from within

Smelling fresh doesn't start with a product, but with a balanced body. Your diet plays a bigger role than you might think. Strong body odor can be influenced by processed foods, excessive sugar, alcohol, or caffeine consumption, hormonal imbalances, magnesium, zinc, or B vitamin deficiencies, and intestinal or liver problems.

By choosing a wholesome diet, sufficient hydration, and healthy fats, you support your body from the inside out. The more balanced your body becomes, the less odor you'll need to mask. A natural deodorant isn't a miracle cure, but rather a supplement to something that already works well.

Why many natural deodorants still disappoint

Even if you live a healthy lifestyle, you can still experience irritation from natural deodorants. This is often caused by using too much baking soda, which can cause a rash or burning sensation. Essential oils in too high a concentration, products that crumble or melt, or remain sticky can also cause problems. Sometimes odor control is lacking, or a product simply contains ingredients that your skin doesn't absorb well.

A natural deodorant should therefore not only be 'free of junk', but also tailored to the skin you already have.

How we approach it

Our formula is based on that idea: support what your body is already doing. We use tallow from grass-fed cattle, rich in fat-soluble vitamins and saturated fatty acids. These are compatible with the composition of your own skin's sebum and promote calm, recovery, and balance.

For odor control, we combine magnesium hydroxide, mild baking soda, and arrowroot to effectively neutralize odor without disrupting your skin's pH balance.

The added French green clay not only gives our deodorant a natural tint but also helps bind toxins and metals. This subtly supports your skin in releasing old residues—especially if you've previously used conventional deodorant containing aluminum.

Finally

Good fragrance begins with a body that can be itself. A natural deodorant supports that process, but doesn't replace it.

Your skin wants to breathe, sweat, and recover. And if you give it that space, life will naturally smell fresher.
